On October 9, 2023, Attorney Brent Eames of Eames Law Group, Ltd. was chosen to serve as a speaker at the Illinois State Bar Association‘s Fall seminar. This seminar was designed to teach workers’ compensation practitioners and labor/employment attorneys a number of key workers’ compensation issues intended to benefit their practice before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. The seminar’s goal was to help attorneys better understand: how to present effective oral arguments the courts; how recent caselaw will impact occupational disease cases; the implicit biases to be aware of when interacting with both colleagues and clients; the vocational rehabilitation issues to be aware of; what you need to know about Section 5(b) liens; and the case law that may impact our clients.
Mr. Eames presented the case law update, which covered a wide variety of workers’ compensation topics such as temporary total disability beneifts, and medical rights. Case law was also discussed which was relevant to firefighters, and included instruction and tips related to the best practices and procedures for attorneys to use in trying a case before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission.

Attorney Brent Eames is a long-standing member of the Workers’ Compensation Section Council for the Illinois State Bar Association. He has served as a frequent lecturer for the ISBA on topics such as trial techniques for practicing before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, as well as representing first responders in companion claims related to work injuries. He currently serves as the Vice President of the Section Council. Next year, he will ascend to the role of President.
